The School, IdHEO Nantes
A place for Professional Training, Education and Research
IdHÉO NANTES is an institute of higher education registered at the ‘Rectorat d’académie de Nantes’ under the number 044 2488 R.
IdHÉO NANTES proposes an education program in osteopathy that complies with the French government decree ;Décret n°2007-437 du 25 mars 2007.
IdHEO is located in Orvault on the outskirts of Nantes, the regional capital of the ‘Pays de la Loire’ on the west coast of France.
The Research Department
While the osteopathic profession has become recognised in France, we felt it imperative to develop a research department at the heart of IdHEO Nantes. IdHEO, thus, invited its Osteopathy Department Heads and University teaching staff to participate in the creation and development of this department. The commitment and involvement of University teaching staff (a specificity of IdHEO) has a combined value not only in the schools teaching but also in its research. - another step in IdHEO’s quest for all-round excellence.
Our declared objective is to provide scientific proof of a certain number of existing empirical observations.
This requires not only human and material resources, but a teaching of the appropriate research norms along with the methods for analysing results. Finally, we put particular emphasis on communication through publications and symposiums which are natural outcomes of our research work.
The Osteopathy Clinic (CCTO)
The clinical practice of students following full time studies is essential and is considered a priority at IdHEO Nantes. It is through this clinical practice that students will gain diagnostic and therapeutic autonomy. This contact with the health world will allow the students to take on responsibilities, perfect their palpation skills, to improve their ability to reflect upon the necessary actions faced with all possible situations and to put into practice their acquired skills. This structure combining treatment and teaching allows the students to become more at ease in clinical practice and gain in personal confidence.
The objectives of the Osteopathy Clinic (CCTO) of IdHEO Nantes are to apply a rigorous methodology and to develop the students’ diagnostic and therapeutic reasoning when faced with a patient having a medical complaint.
Most patients come from outside of the school. They have been referred to the clinic by the local medical profession or have heard of the Clinic’s and School’s reputation through patients’ experiences. Consultations, open to the public and inexpensive, are carried out by 4th and 5th year students, under the supervision of professionally qualified osteopaths who have access to different methods of evaluation (files, computer software, video cameras, and debriefing sessions).
